STULZ at Chillventa 2008: Energy-efficient solutions in the comfort and precision air conditioning sector

At Chillventa 2008, the Hamburg climate control expert STULZ will be presenting its extensive air conditioning portfolio. In the comfort and precision air conditioning and humidifying sectors, the global company is presenting comprehensive solutions meeting high standards in terms of energy efficiency and quality. The well-established company produces precision air conditioning systems itself. STULZ is the exclusive sales partner in Germany for comfort air conditioning systems from Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd. and Haier and for humidifying systems from Carel.

Comfort air conditioning from STULZ:

Energy saving heating and cooling: WPX series heat pumps

STULZ has more than 30 years’ experience in heat pumps and has drawn on this expertise to develop the new WPX heat pump system. The WPX system consists of an inverter-controlled outdoor unit from Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd. (MHI) and an indoor water module. For heating, the WPX system uses the outside air and dissipates the heat to the heating system via the water module. Even in the depths of winter, the WPX heat pump guarantees a cosy room temperature. In the summer months, the heat pump provides cooling by reversing the cooling circuit so that the heat is transferred outside.
STULZ supplies the WPX system at four power levels with a heating capacity of 9 to 17.5 kW. The heat pump system is particularly suitable for use in detached and semi-detached houses, small office buildings and retail premises. The benefits are clear: The heat pump system operates without the use of oil and gas and saves energy and costs. In new buildings, there are no investment costs for chimneys and oil tanks. The WPX heat pump system will be presented at Chillventa.

Maximum energy efficiency with minimum floor space: KX6 Micro

CyberAir 2 Außenansicht

With the KX6 Micro, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd. (MHI) is launching the smallest VRF outdoor units in the KXS series. The units have a floor space of just 0.36 square metres. With a weight of just 82 kilograms, the compact KX6 outdoor units are easy to transport and install. The KX6 Micro is available with a power of 11.2, 14 and 15.5 kW. With a COP value of 4.33, the 11.2 kW cooling capacity version achieves the highest energy efficiency values. The KX6 Micro provides cooling at outdoor temperatures of between minus 15 degrees Celsius and 43 degrees Celsius and heating from minus 20 degrees Celsius to 15.5 degrees Celsius.
Up to eight indoor units can be connected to the KX6 outdoor unit. With its KXS series, MHI offers a choice of more than 100 adaptable air conditioning solutions for optimum integration into any building. The long pipe lengths provide additional flexibility: The individual indoor units can have a height difference of up to 15 metres between each other and 30 metres to the outdoor unit. The total pipe length can be up to 100 metres. As an option, the KX6 can be controlled even more conveniently using the CompTrol control engineering from STULZ.
More outdoor units in the KX6 series will be launched in the spring of 2009. Compared to previous models, the new series in the KX6 series will be significantly smaller and lighter. They will have leak detection as standard, which will quickly identify and report the escape of refrigerant. MHI has also increased the possible pipe lengths.

Energy-efficient lightweights: FDS mono and simultaneous multi-split series

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd. has made further improvements to its FDS mono and simultaneous multi-split series. With a cooling capacity of 4 to 25 kW, the units are ideal for use in both technical and office environments and in private homes. The FDS units provide cooling and heating at lower outdoor temperatures, as low as minus 15 degrees Celsius. With a COP value of up to 4.3 in cooling mode and 3.91 in heating mode, the new series offers exceptional energy efficiency. The compact outdoor units can be combined with any indoor units from the FDS series. A wide range of indoor units enables tailored air conditioning solutions to be developed.

Optimum climate in equipment rooms: CompTrol Vario 4

The Hamburg air conditioning expert STULZ extended its CompTrol product range for control and monitoring of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd. air conditioning units. The new units in the CompTrol Vario 4 series use intelligent software to warn against hot temperatures and humidity in the equipment room. In case of a fault, up to four service engineers receive an immediate alarm message by e-mail, SMS, voice mail or fax. To ensure the required cooling capacity, the software automatically connects additional units as the room temperature rises. Up to four groups of units can be conveniently operated and monitored, either remotely or on site. In addition, the CompTrol Vario 4 controls the running times of the air conditioning units installed in the room. The sequencing function ensures even distribution of running times, thus increasing the service life of the units.

Energy-efficiency humidifying: STULZ ULTRASONIC humidifying systems

CyberAir 2 Außenansicht

The STULZ ULTRASONIC humidifying systems provide tailored air quality. The range of applications is wide and includes offices, museums, laboratories, chiller counters in supermarkets, production plants and warehouses. The ultrasonic humidifiers in the ULTRASONIC series require up to 93 percent less energy than electrode and resistance steam humidifiers with the same output. With current energy costs, the higher investment costs are amortised in just one to two years.
A newly developed controller can control up to 15 humidifiers in master/slave mode. The plain text display provides the user with a convenient overview of all the relevant data. The menu control is available in English and German and can be extended with any other language if required. To meet stringent hygiene requirements, the controller allows special flushing cycles to be programmed – for example drainage of the water tank following a long period of inactivity and flushing of the pipes when the humidifier is activated.

Flexible climate control solutions for medium-sized and large data centres: CyberAir 2

CyberAir 2 Außenansicht

The CyberAir 2 series provides flexible solutions for air conditioning in medium-sized and large data centres. Precision A/C units are now available with seven different cooling systems. The cooling capacity ranges from 18.6 kW to 197 kW. The units are available in six sizes, from 1000 mm to 2900 mm in width with a depth of only 890 mm. STULZ supplies its CyberAir 2 units with a choice of refrigerants: standard types R407C and R410A, or high-temperature refrigerant R134a. With Dynamic Free Cooling, or DFC for short, developed specially for the CyberAir 2, STULZ can boast a unique, energy-efficient solution for the air conditioning of data centres. The electronically controlled hybrid cooling system combines dynamic compressor cooling and free cooling in four stages. DFC automatically selects the best operating mode, depending on the outside temperature and heat load in the data centre. When outside temperatures are low, this can lower electricity consumption by up to 60 %.
The enhanced C7000 controller from STULZ allows convenient operation of a bus system of up to 20 air conditioning units. The unit’s internal C7000 microprocessor provides improved user friendliness, speed and energy efficiency. The units communicate using the RS485 bus system, ensuring high transmission speeds and excellent operational reliability.
